Bushfires, COVID-19 and economic change — how have these events affected you?

We are now recruiting for stage 2 of this project.

The impacts of natural disaster events such as bushfires and extreme weather, and the social and economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic are widespread. We invite you to participate in our latest project by completing our survey and sharing your experiences of major change events.

The Plug-in is supported by Office for Ageing Well and Wellbeing SA to undertake research exploring how older South Australians navigate major social, environmental and economic events and the resulting impacts, with a particular focus on older people living in regional centres.

Have you been affected by major social, economic and environmental events?

Through this project, we want to learn about your experiences over the past few years, what major events you have experienced, and how you and your community have responded to and worked through the impacts they had on your everyday life. For example, these may include natural disasters such as bushfire and drought, and the economic and social changes that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Why this project is important

The findings of this study will inform local programs in your area and be shared with decision-makers in state and local government, local health networks, not-for-profit organisations and other service providers with the intent of improving everyday life for older South Australians.

Stage 1 — Survey — COMPLETE

Through this survey we want to get to know a bit more about you and the major environmental and social events that you have experienced as well as your perceptions of the impacts of these events. We will also ask you about your lifestyle, technology and how you use it, and your access to services. At the conclusion of the survey you will have the opportunity to indicate if you wish to be involved in the second stage of this project.

Stage 2 — Focus Groups and Phone Interviews

Now recruiting!

Stage two of this project will delve deeper into the impacts on your community as a result of major environmental events and social change through a series of focus groups.
