We all have preferences about how we bank, whether it’s in branch, over the phone, online or delegated to trusted family. Perhaps those preferences have changed as you’ve aged or due to factors such as branch closures, technological change or COVID-19.

The Plug-in is very pleased to be working with researchers from UNISA Business School to explore the attitudes and behaviours that influence older Australians’ banking decisions, including use of online and telephone banking services. If you have a bank account and are aged 65 and over, we want to hear your experiences.

For this project, we are seeking individuals living in South Australia and Victoria. We are excited to begin inviting South Australia residents for friendly conversations in November/December 2020. Victorian participants will be invited in early 2021.

Additionally, our research team is interested in understanding how difficulties with hearing or vision may affect individuals’ choice to use services by phone or internet. If you prefer face-to-face interactions rather than the phone or find it difficult to use the internet due to your vision, please register your interest below. If this sounds like someone you know, please let them know so they can consider participating in our project.

What’s Involved?

Register your interest by completing the survey in the link below. If selected, we will contact you to schedule a friendly conversation with a member of the UniSA Research team in the coming months:

  • Conversations will be conducted by researchers via phone or video call. You can participate from the comfort of your home using your mobile, home phone or computer.
  • In-person conversations will be scheduled for individuals with hearing impairments.
  • Following the phone or video calls, some participants will be selected to participate in a focus group in early 2021. This will be an opportunity for researchers to explore themes gathered from conservations in more detail.

If you are selected to take part in these conversations, you will receive a $30 gift card in recognition of your involvement. In-person and focus group participants will receive a $50 gift card.

Participation in this project is voluntary and if selected, you can withdraw at any time. Your personal information will not be used or shared without your express consent – you can read more about our privacy policy on our website. If selected, The Plug-in will email you all the details you need to be part of the project.

Am I eligible?

As with all our projects, The Plug-in has a range of selection criteria for participants.

For this project, we are looking for people who meet the following requirements:
