SA Health, through Wellbeing SA, engaged The Plug-in to assist with development of the My Home Hospital program.
The Plug-in worked with Wellbeing SA to further expand participation in the broader consultation program by gaining deeper insights from older Australians about their perceptions of receiving hospital type care in the comfort and privacy of their own home.
Hospitals, particularly those in the metropolitan Adelaide area, are often operating at close to full capacity. The recent pressures created by COVID-19 have highlighted the need to have capacity in our hospitals. Research has shown that many patients could receive their hospital care in their own homes.
My Home Hospital will deliver safe, high quality care in a patient home or residential care facility as a substitute to going to hospital. The service will be available 24 hours a day,
7 days a week across the metropolitan and peri-urban areas of Adelaide. Medical, nursing and allied health staff will visit patients at home and use technology to monitor your care.
As Wellbeing SA wanted to ensure that the comments received during the consultation were from a broad range of people and demographics, they engaged The Plug-in specifically to hear the voices of people who identify as LGBTI.
The Plug-in recruited participants aged 50 years and older who resided in South Australia and identified as LGBTI to take part in an online focus group.
The focus group was facilitated by DemocracyCo and Wellbeing SA, and people participated from the comfort of their own home using computers or mobile devices.
