The Plug-in was engaged by a website developer who required assistance in training a ‘chatbot’.

What is a chatbot?

A chatbot is a tool on a website where you can ask questions to get instant help and answers. You have probably seen chatbots on websites before and may have even asked them questions!

Chatbots help save you time and find exactly what you’re looking for. You can ask the chatbot a question and get an answer straight away, like the experience you would get if you were asking a real person.

You may have wondered how artificial intelligence gets so smart and can answer your questions. The chatbot continuously gets smarter as it learns from conversations it has with people…this is where you come in!

This project presented a unique opportunity to help train technology that may be added to the My Aged Care website to make it easier for people to get the answers they need about aged care services.

What was involved

Participants were asked to follow a couple of simple steps to interact with the chatbot. They were also required to ask it one or more real questions that someone would be likely to ask when on the My Aged Care website. The tasks took less than five minutes to complete.

Selection criteria

As with all our projects, The Plug-in has a range of selection criteria for participants. To be eligible for this project, participants were:

  • Willing to visit a demonstration version of the My Aged Care website with a chatbot function
  • Type in at least one real question they might ask that relates to aged care services.

Remember, ‘aged care services’ doesn’t only mean residential care, it is a term used to cover many types of services including residential care and help at home.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this project to test a ‘chatbot’ — we were overwhelmed with so many enthusiastic participants!
