We’re looking for older people from regional South Australia to share your experiences of getting around your community.

For many people, driving represents independence, freedom and choice. But people’s transport needs can change throughout life, and we want to better understand what helps you feel in control of how you travel.

If you’re aged 50+ and living in Victor Harbor, Port Pirie, Whyalla, Kadina or Mount Gambier we invite you to take part in a conversation about how you get around your community.

Whether you drive, walk, cycle, use public or community transport, or get lifts from family and friends, we’d like to hear from you. You can share your experiences through a workshop or a one-on-one interview.

The insights gathered through this project will help shape practical resources and guidance for older people, communities, service providers and policymakers across regional South Australia.

Why should I get involved?

This project is less about transport infrastructure and more about understanding the personal, social and practical factors that influence how people choose to get around.

We’re interested in hearing about:

  • what influences your travel choices
  • what makes different transport options appealing or unappealing
  • your experiences trying different ways of travelling
  • what would make it easier to explore alternative options in the future.

There are no right or wrong answers. We are interested in your experiences and perspectives.

By sharing your experiences, you’ll help build a better understanding of how older people make transport decisions in regional South Australia.

Am I eligible?

We’re looking for people who:

  • Are aged 50 years or older
  • Live in Victor Harbor, Port Pirie, Whyalla, Kadina or Mount Gambier
  • Can join either:
    • a 90-minute in-person workshop, or
    • a 60-minute one-to-one phone interview
  • Have experiences or views about getting around your community, whether you drive, walk, cycle, use public or community transport, or receive lifts from family or friends.

All participants will receive a $50 gift card as honorarium to thank you for your time. You can withdraw your participation or stop at any time.

If you are interested in participating, you can complete a short survey to register interest here or please get in touch with us at connect@theplugin.com.au or call on 08 8232 0422 or Country Callers free call on 1800 182 324.
