Our Plug-in Influencers helped app developers understand the needs of older people through a co-design testing workshop!
The Plug-in partnered with Curtin University and Curve Tomorrow to help design an app that works well for older people who have experienced a mild traumatic brain injury (e.g. concussion). Our participants attended a workshop to explore the app and share their experience, feedback and insights on its design and functionality.
The insights shared will help influence the app development and help make it as user friendly and easy to navigate as possible.
The app is designed to capture health information following a mild head injury. Project participants shared their experience of the app, what worked well, and what elements of the design needed to change to better suit the needs of older users. Participants also shared their experience of the look, design, and functionality of the app, and the data elements being requested for completion.
About the research
This research is part of a broader project to develop an app that will help support the treatment and recovery of people with mild traumatic brain injury. Mild traumatic brain injuries, such as concussions, are experienced by many people through events such as traffic crashes, workplace accidents, sports injuries or falls. At least 1 in 5 people who experience a mild traumatic brain injury will take months or even years to recover from a concussion. The research is designed to find out why and improve recovery.
The co-design workshop was held in April 2023 and ran for 1.5 hours with 8 participant ages ranging from 55 to 89 years of age. The workshop was guided by two facilitators helping participants move through the app and capturing their feedback.
Your contribution makes a difference to the lives of older South Australians. Thank you to all who registered their interest in this project!
