In June through to September 2023, The Plug-in partnered with City of Adelaide’s Healthy Ageing Team to find out what people aged 50+ are seeking to contribute to the experience of ageing well in the city, and what council programs and activities residents would value to support this.

Stage 1

In the first stage of the project, 100 residents of Adelaide and North Adelaide participated in a survey. The survey focused on understanding how city residents use council services and facilities, the types of programs and activities that would support wellbeing and social connection within the local community.

Survey respondents were able to participate online, in paper copy format, or over the phone.

Stage 2

In the second Stage of the project, The Plug-in ran 3 workshops in early August 2023 to better understand the results of the stage 1 survey. The survey findings were used to further explore emerging themes and to help create an ageing well program that meets current and future needs and expectations of older people living in the city.

The workshops were held in Adelaide and North Adelaide in person, with 25 city residents participating across the 3 workshops.

Through thematic analysis, the insights gathered from surveys and workshops provided rich information about what city residents are looking for to support positive ageing in the city. The Plug-in provided detailed reports throughout the project, and these findings will assist City of Adelaide in reviewing the Healthy Ageing program to ensure it is meaningful and relevant for all older people living in the city.

Thank you to those who participated in this project! Through your contribution you are raising the voices of older people and supporting the important work of COTA SA!
