We were delighted to work with SAHMRI (South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute) through their Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA), to help their team of world-leading researchers explore how to best communicate their health and aged care research findings to those people who are most affected by it.

In order to achieve this, we engaged with The Plug-in influencers to hear their insights and experiences when it comes to learning about the latest health and aged care research.

Why this project was so important

ROSA’s research monitors health and other outcomes of people receiving aged care services in South Australia and has impacts for the people using these services. It is very important that our older South Australians are strongly represented at every stage of the research process, including how the research is shared with the public.

We invited those were comfortable to contribute to the discussion as an older person who uses aged care and health care services as we explore the most effective ways to reach older people, and how to best communicate health and aged care research findings which may affect them.

The findings from this study helped ROSA to share their important research far and wide. The contributions of our influencers will make a difference in health and aged care research being shared effectively, sensitively and ensure it reaches as many older people as possible, to help them make more informed decisions about the health and aged care services they use.

In late 2019, The Plug-in held three workshops where our influencers shared their experiences and ideas on how health and aged care research findings can reach the older community.

Thanks to the insights that were shared through these workshops we have been able to develop a better understanding of how older people think and feel about health and aged care research.

The second stage of this project was undertaken with SAHMRI (South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute) through their Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA), with the aim of testing the ideas developed in the workshops. To achieve this, we invited our influencers to complete a short and interesting online survey for this important project to explore how ROSA can best communicate their health and aged care research findings to those people who are most affected by it.

What was involved

Contribution to this project will go a long way in making a difference in health and aged care research being shared effectively and sensitively to help people make more informed decisions about the health and aged care services they use.

This project was carried out over two stages

In late 2019, The Plug-in held three workshops where we discussed the ways people prefer to receive information about the latest health and aged care research, using examples of research findings from the ROSA research team. Our influencers shared their experiences and ideas on how health and aged care research findings can reach the older community.

The workshops were 90 minutes in duration and those selected received a $50 gift card in recognition of their involvement.

The second stage of this project with the aim of testing the ideas developed in the workshops. To achieve this, we invited our influencers to complete a short and interesting online survey for this important project to explore how ROSA can best communicate their health and aged care research findings to those people who are most affected by it.

We thank everyone who participated in the workshops and completed the online survey — your contributions are greatly valued!
