The impacts of natural disaster events such as bushfires and extreme weather, and the social and economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic are widespread. We invite you to participate in our latest project by completing our survey and sharing your experiences of major change events.
The Plug-in is supported by Office for Ageing Well and Wellbeing SA to undertake research exploring how older South Australians navigate major social, environmental and economic events and the resulting impacts, with a particular focus on older people living in regional centres.
Have you been affected by major social, economic and environmental events?
Through this project, we want to learn about your experiences over the past few years, what major events you have experienced, and how you and your community have responded to and worked through the impacts they had on your everyday life. For example, these may include natural disasters such as bushfire and drought, and the economic and social changes that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Why this project is important
The findings of this study will inform local programs in your area and be shared with decision-makers in state government, local health networks, councils, not-for-profit organisations and other service providers with the intent of improving everyday life for older South Australians.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible to participate in this project, you must be aged 50 years or over and be willing to share your experiences.
This project will be undertaken in two stages. The first is a survey that can be completed online or offline and will take up to ten minutes to complete. The second stage is a series of focus groups and phone interviews in Adelaide and regional centres.
Stage 1 — Survey
The first stage of this project is a survey which can be completed online by clicking the link below. The survey is open to people aged 50 years and over. If you are unable to complete the online survey, please contact The Plug-in to obtain a hard copy or to complete the survey over the phone.
Through this survey we want to get to know a bit more about you and the major environmental and social events that you have experienced as well as your perceptions of the impacts of these events. We will also ask you about your lifestyle, technology and how you use it, and your access to services. At the conclusion of the survey you will have the opportunity to indicate if you wish to be involved in the second stage of this project.
The survey will take less than ten minutes to complete and your responses will remain confidential in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles.
Stage 2 — Focus Groups and Phone Interviews
Recruitment for stage 2 will be undertaken in 2022.
Stage two of this project will delve deeper into the impacts on your community as a result of major environmental events and social change through a series of focus groups.
Focus groups will be held in Adelaide, Tanunda, Whyalla, Peterborough, Kadina and Strathalbyn. We will be looking to conduct phone interviews with people who also live in these locations.
Your contribution will make a difference to the lives of older South Australians.
