Throughout 2017 and 2018, the Department of Health undertook work regarding the development of aged care or health standards alongside consumers, service providers, academics and experts.

The new draft Aged Care Quality Standards are focused on outcomes for consumers rather than around the processes of aged care service providers and are a single set of standards that replace the four standards currently in place, and are expected to be implemented around 1 July 2018.

Alongside a pilot program testing the draft Aged Care Quality Standards and guidance material that supports the draft standards,  The Plug-in influencers who were consumers of aged care services, or a family member/carer of individuals accessing aged care services, were invited to provide feedback on the guidance material.

Feedback and insights shared by influencers assisted the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency to refine the guidance material to ensure it was helpful for consumers and supported the Departments aim of focusing on positive outcomes for consumers.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this important project.
